ANCON has developed and patented a  disruptive technology which detects trace quantities of dangerous substances  such as explosives, chemical weapons, drugs and pollution in the air. ANCON’s  technology is highly advanced in comparison to its competitors, having the  potential to revolutionise the detection of explosives, drugs and chemical  weapons within the security, border control and defence industries, and can  provide new ways of monitoring air pollution. Ancon’s technology detects  trace concentrations of threat materials in the air at the level of a single  molecule, providing superior levels of sensitivity and detection. ANCON is  recognised by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as the only technology provider  which has the capability to meet the performance requirements of the next generation  of civilian and military threat detection systems.

ANCON has been awarded five  technology development contracts by the MoD, and four by a consortium led by  the Home Office. In January 2017, this consortium awarded Ancon a further  two-year contract to detect concealed explosives worth up to GBP 600,000 in  total. In February, the Home Office awarded a contract to Ancon to develop  the next generation of explosive detection systems under the Future Airports  Security Systems Programme which is valued at GBP 1.2 million. As part of  this contract Ancon is partnering with L3 Communications Inc., a multibillion  American company which is a leader in airport and other security markets, to  secure its pathway into commercial products. In May 2017, ANCON was awarded a contract by the  MoD to develop a demonstration prototype for ANCON’s NMT, which detects trace  chemicals in the air at the level of a single molecule. Ancon’s approach is  entirely different and leads to many advantages including:

  Unprecedented sensitivities based on the ability to “see” and count  individual molecules.

  Very low noise levels, enhancing the ability to detect small concentrations  of target substances in high concentrations of background trace substances.

  A direct measurement of concentration, which cancels out the need for complex  amplification electronics.
